I realize the last several posts I've had, the most recent of which was a month ago, complained about the speed at which life was moving. It hasn't slowed down any; therefore, I will yet again complain about it.
Let's see...I spent a weekend at Mark's house with the puppies, each of whom I'm in love with! Mark, does Alfie have a Facebook page?!
Rob and I did wind up going to Toronto in his little toy car. Once I got used to people's faces glued to their windows as we drove by (oh, they're staring at the car, not me), it was great. We did well in Toronto and continued the tradition of drunken subway riding. I did not, however, pick fights with any street signs. That's for London only. But it was fun, and I would have been behind on the packing/moving anyway!
Speaking of moving, Brody is settled cutely into his doggie bed in the basement of our new apartment--no, now he's up again. He was settled for a minute there. But we have been here for about a week, and we're both settling in nicely with Jackie, the first non-boy roommate I've had in almost 8 years. Brody was the first, and about the only thing I had unpacked till about yesterday. He really didn't respond well to
being bubble wrapped. Huh.
The move, for those of you who don't know, took longer than I imagined, on account of the obscene amounts of clothing and books I own. Suddenly I'm motivated to put together a Goodwill bag. The big stuff was a piece of cake, though, 100% due to the fact that Chip and Guy moved it all for me. They were great. Not sure where Rob was...I guess the two times I helped him move weren't appreciated. Thought he'd show up. Hmm... might have an opening for Favorite Brother if anyone wants to apply. Tee hee. Kidding Rob. You really could still come help me unpack if you wanted! And you would have fit lots of stuff in your Smart Car. Lots of stuff. Almost as much as Chip fit into his truck. Why didn't I take a picture of Chip's truck piled up? It was impressive. Chip, just send those chiropractic bills my way...
But it was the little stuff that just took forever...and never seemed to end. But it's done. Now I just have to unpack. But Brody seems happy here, and loves the extra attention from Jackie (he still loves Marie best, though) and the extra space. He is beside himself at having three floors to cause mischief on and having a deck to sunbathe on. And I have enjoyed the 5 minute ride to work.
The school year started last week for us, and so far our kids look pretty good. Five or six of them thank me every day at the end of class, so that's pretty promising. I am working with different people, so it's been different, but ok so far.
Soccer starts tomorrow, so that will be a fun ride once it starts. My goalkeeper/captain grew a few inches over the summer, so that makes me happy!
I worked Jimmy Buffet yesterday in the pouring rain...life wasn't moving too fast for those people. Jackie and I got there late, and the parking lot is a zoo. I mean, where do these people keep all the palm trees, grass skirts, coconut bras, inflatable sharks, parrothead hats, etc. the rest of the year? It's like Halloween for adults. One guy had an SUV with the back filled with actual tropical birds. Like I said, a zoo. WTF? So we're late and trying to get to the staff parking lot. Our path is soon blocked by golf cart masquerading as a shark and a 9 foot tall man. On stilts. Which are actually really creepy. So we beep at them. And are ingnored. We beep again. The man on stilts (who we later see on stage with Buffet) gives on the "hold on" gesture. I give him the "hurry up and move before I headbutt you in the kneecap, Stiltman" gesture. Eventually they move and we get in, and begin readying the place to serve all those cheeseburgers in paradise. Less than five minutes later, I am stung by a bee, which is odd, following a discussion the night before specifically about bee stings. Are there supposed to be bees in paradise? Sigh. At least I know I won't have to look at another WWJBD? sticker. (What would Jimmy Buffet Do?). I think Jimmy Buffet would find endless ways to scam late middle agers out of thousands of dollars of disposable income, and make them look like fools doing it (four words: women wearing eye patches!).
Anyway...that was my Saturday. Very little else is going on. Can't believe it's September already. There's just so much to do.
Alright. Back to the unpacking.
So if you're sitting next to anyone who is sweating tequila and salt out their pores Monday, start humming the volcano song and see if you can make them throw up.
You crack me up! I'm glad you are getting settled in. And I'm also glad I still hold the #2 spot in little B man's heart. Although, I mainly think it's because I'm Annie's mom.
